❗ New exhibition in True F. Luck Gallery: The Visual Arts Center of Richmond and Crafting the Future present “The Shape of Water,” a group exhibition featuring artists who explore the embodiment of the human form, connection to land, and the act of leaving impressions—both conceptual and tangible.

Through dynamic installations, two-dimensional work, and functional objects, each artist transforms materials such as textile, glass, and clay, infusing their work with notions of storytelling, memory, and modernity. The exhibition title draws inspiration from the idea that water retains information.

Much like personal memories, water has the ability to hold onto impressions and experiences, aligning with the exhibition’s examination of the imprints we make and those we leave behind.

Curated by Jaynelle Hazard and Terrick Gutierrez.

Exhibiting artists include April Bey, Sam Christian, Gabrielle Ione Hickmon, Hong Hong, Kandy G. Lopez, Aryana Minai, Cedric Mitchell, Jomo Tariku, and Felandus Thames.

To whom it may concern, I am writing to express my extensive experience and various qualifications for the Full-Time position as Marketing + Communications Coordinator. I have also included supplementary portfolio materials which I hope you will review. It includes samples of media styles and content examples using documentation I created around the Visual Arts Center to showcase what I hope to further develop and offer in this role.

For over a decade I have committed my academic trajectory, career path, and artistic practice to the fields of photography, film, and animation. In addition to actively creating content in these fields and building a diverse portfolio that represents this breadth of experience, I have honed a unique style built on solid skills, in my efforts to capture narrative driven stories by and for communities, build empathy, connect people, and highlight underrepresented voices. My work has been published in print. The most recent was Outdoor Magazine, as well as in fine-art galleries and exhibitions and featured online in interviews with RVA Mag, NoBudge, and Girls in film.

I earned my Bachelors of Fine Art in photography from the Maryland Institute College of Art and Design and was awarded a full-scholarship to continue and earn my Masters of Fine Art in photography and film at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). I currently hold multiple part-time academic appointments. Over the past six years, I have held the position of Adjunct Professor at VCU, a minority-serving institution, where I teach advanced digital and analog photography, videography, editing, and animation. This speaks to my extensive and thorough knowledge of the historical and contemporary discourse around photography and film, as well as the technical in’s and out’s of contemporary media production. Another role I hold is producing visual content and documentation for the Visual Arts program at Orchard House Middle School, where I also have been the Art Teacher for the past three years. My documentation captures the spirit of the school through the hands-on activities of art as self-expression. These images are often used for their current rebrand, strategic marketing plans, as well as social media accounts. I also previously managed the BFA and MFA social media accounts for the photography + film department, where I created content and developed a consistent posting schedule that showcased the events of all undergrad and graduate classes and began a feature of alumni and student instagram “takeovers”.

The educational landscape has shifted in unprecedented ways over the last several years. After many years of teaching art to various ages of students in several organizations, I have learned that what fulfills me the most is being able to use my passion for art and creativity to create new content that tells stories, highlights people doing incredible things, and brings communities together. I am most fulfilled when I have goals to work towards that contribute to larger team-oriented results. While I have enjoyed teaching skills to others, my dream career trajectory is to dedicate all of my innovative creativity and artistic passion into a marketing focused direction. I have been a member of the Visual Arts Center Community for almost five years now as a teacher and now have the honor of being an annual resident. Having taught in every session and age-range offered at Vis Arts, I not only have a thorough understanding of the overall annual calendar and changing seasons but I’ve had the pleasure of getting to work in all of the studios and  know so many of the members who bring them to life.

My diverse range of artistic and professional experience has equipped me with the knowledge, complete toolkit, and professional capacity to lead start-to-finish workflows in photography and videography production. I am very experienced in the use of my own various and advanced equipment that produces quality results such as handheld stabilizers, reflectors, microphones, tripod video sliders, and more. I am prolific in a variety of industry-standard software, such as the Adobe Suite including Premiere, After Effects, Lightroom, and Photoshop. I have 10 years of experience photographing events, documenting all ages and styles of art classes, photojournalist assignments, and cataloging/organizing multiple large photographic databases. In addition to meeting all of the required responsibilities for this position, I bring unique skills with my background in design and animation. My ability to create custom and original GIF’s, animated logos, and generate motion graphics would be a wonderful addition for increasing visibility online in a dynamic manner.

The Richmond community has so many incredible gems to offer, but in my opinion no place compares to the unwavering inclusion, support, and accessibility of the Visual Arts Center. It would be my pleasure and privilege to continue showcasing this mission and contributing to its growing and evolving capabilities. It is my hope to apply my years of experience and technical expertise in this creative and instrumental position as Marketing + Communications Coordinator.

I hope for the opportunity to further discuss my dedication and qualifications for this position with your team. Thank you so much for your time and consideration.

Best regards,

Evie Metz
